Prof. Neelesh Kumar Jain is a Professor in Mechanical Engineering at IIT Indore at present serving as Director (Officiating) from 1st Jan 2020. He has served as Director (Acting) for more than 18 months on various occasions earlier, founding Dean of Academic Affairs during Oct 2010 to May 2019, BoG member of IIT Indore. As the founding DOAA of IIT Indore, Prof. Jain played a significant role in developing course curriculum for 5 BTech, 6 MTech, 5 MSc, 3 MS(Research) PhD programs in 16 departments and dual degree PG+PhD programs, academic procedures, regulations, and academic infrastructure at IIT Indore. He has authored 4 books (and edited 2 books), 17 book chapters, 94 journal papers and 32 conference papers, guided 10 PhD theses, 27 MTech theses.
His research areas include Additive Manufacturing of Metallic Materials and Implants for Biomedical Applications; Development of functionally graded materials (FGM), shape memory materials (SMM), metal matrix composites (MMC), high entropy alloys through additive manufacturing route; High Quality Gear Finishing by Advanced Finishing Processes; Sustainable Hobbing of Gears; Near Net-shape Manufacturing of Meso-sized circular and non-circular Gears; Simulation, Modeling, and Optimization of the Manufacturing Processes; Micromachining and Nano-finishing Processes; Micro-joining of thin sheets.
